Kevin Ashton, sosok yang sering dinobatkan sebagai bapak IoT membuat pernyataan yang cukup mengagetkan pada acara ACS Reimagination 2015:
“So you get stuff like the smart wine bottle, the smart bikini, and the smart water bottle. This stuff is not the Internet of Things – this stuff is all rubbish.”
Kembali kepada hype – hype IoT yang banyak beredar, pernyataan Kevin Ashton harus diakui memang benar adanya. Sering kali “inovasi – inovasi” ini membuat esensi dari IoT menjadi kabur.
Saya sependapat dengan kalimat selanjutnya:
“Information is a great way to reduce waste and increase efficiency, and that’s really what the Internet of Things provides,”
